It was a fantastic experience. I would rate it five out of five. The shuttle buses are completely free, and the waiting time is not long. There are many families, but everyone is very friendly. It's … Full review by Passport63363623846

From the comments of others it appears it would have been helpful, but the two days we were there it was closed (all day both days), so I feel we missed out on something that would have made our time… Full review by Lucinda W

Q:
What would be good places to stay on the South Rim and North Rim of the Grand Canyon beginning May 15, 2015? If available, we would prefer staying at national park lodges, but if they are not available at that time, a commercial hotel/motel would be fine. Thanks in advance.

On the south rim, we stayed at El Tovar and liked it. It is expensive and gets booked up, but they had rooms available when we checked in due to cancellations. Parking is hard for everything.... Outside the park....I would stay in Tusayan. It is 25 minutes away and GC Park shuttles run out there if you want to take a shuttle into the park. The shuttles are free. But traveling on foot to the sights along the rim like historic lodges and museums were my preference. I'll stay at one of the big mid-range motel chains outside the park next time I go. But for our first visit and meeting friends, taking photos at sunrise...a lodge in the park was the best solution and made it doable. Remember...7000 ft above sea level takes a toll on you.
