Civilization 7's new mix-and-match style is a departure from previous games and it's weird not to be able to play as one civ across the Ages.

The biggest new feature in Civilization VII is the Age mechanic. It splits the game into three separate acts across major periods of history: the ancient Antiquity Age, the Exploration Age, where you can cross the seas and discover a new world, and the Modern Age.
