More than 5,500 Illinois workers owed back pay totaling more than $4.2 million can claim their unpaid wages online, the U.S. Department of Labor said Tuesday.

The IRS estimates that more than $42,000,000 in refunds remain unclaimed by Illinois taxpayers who have not filed their Form 1040, Federal Income Tax Return, for the 2021 tax year.

The total value of potential refunds in Illinois is $40,608,000, according to the IRS. Those who are eligible for an Earned Income Tax Credit could receive sums in addition to a refund on paid taxes.
