With the loss, the Chiefs are officially eliminated from postseason contention, and won't get a chance to avenge their loss in the 2025 Super Bowl. (The team has four Super Bowl titles to date: 1970, 2020, 2023 and 2024.)
After placing star quarterback Patrick Mahomes on injured reserve with a torn ACL last week, the Chiefs lost fill-in quarterback Gardner Minshew to a knee injury during Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans. Minshew was ruled out in the third quarter, replaced by Chris Oladokun, who was just elevated from the practice squad on Saturday.
A Broncos team on a barnstorming tour through the 2025 season needed only beat a Chiefs team that lost all of its close-game mojo from a year ago, lost six of seven games leading into Week 17 and lost future Hall of Fame quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a torn ACL, too.
Patrick Mahomes spoke out after tearing his ACL during the Chiefs' game against the Chargers on Dec. 14. 'Don't know why this had to happen,' the star quarterback wrote in a post on X.
