Only passenger cars, passenger vans and empty pickup trucks are allowed to cross the suspension bridge between the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan today, according an update to bridge conditions from the Mackinac Bridge Authority. Winds are blowing across the bridge surface at 50-64 mph.

The Mackinac Bridge reopened to semi-trucks, motor homes and other vulnerable vehicles Monday evening after high winds restricted traffic for much of the day.

Winds of over 50 mph Monday resulted in a partial closure of the Mackinac Bridge, the bridge authority reported.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Mackinac Bridge closed to some vehicles Monday morning due to high winds, but has sense reopened to all vehicles. Monday morning, only passenger cars, passenger vans and empty pickup trucks are allowed on the bridge, the Mackinac Bridge Authority said. Wind speeds in the Straits area reached 64 mph.
