A missing Minnesota transgender man was found dead in a field in New York after being reported missing. Authorities say he endured “prolonged physical and psychological abuse."

New York State Police have charged five people in the murder of a missing man who authorities said died following repeated acts of violence and torture for more than a month by multiple individuals who later discarded his body in a field.

Canandaigua, N.Y. — Sam Nordquist, a 24-year-old transgender man who was reported missing in February, was tortured repeatedly for over a month before he was killed, according to state police. Five people have been charged with his murder, police spokesperson Lynnea Crane said Friday.

On Friday, police announced the body of 24-year-old Sam Nordquist had been found, adding he had "endured prolonged physical and psychological abuse" and that they haven't ruled out the potential of a hate crime.
