LOS ANGELES — Hours after federal agents shut down 17 auto parts stores they say were distributing nitrous oxide for use as a recreational drug, the teenagers began to gather.

Indiana authorities seized over 15,000 illegal nitrous oxide tanks in a year-long operation, with fines up to $1,000 and potential revocation of tobacco certificates for the stores involved.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Over the course of a year, Indiana Alcohol Tobacco Commission seized 15,000 cannisters of illegal nitrous oxide tanks throughout the state.

The large tanks in the main hospital were part of a system designed to deliver nitrous oxide throughout the entire building. Moving forward, the gas will only be administered from small bottles.

“Police arrested eight people and seized 18 nitrous oxide tanks and dozens of balloons used to inhale nitrous oxide, from patrons at a Phish concert at the Comcast Theatre Friday night.
