A map shows the epicentre of one of the most powerful earthquakes everrecorded, along with large parts of the Pacific Ocean now under tsunami warnings. The 8.8-magnitude tremor struck off the city of Petropavlovsk, on Russia’s remote Kamchatka Peninsula, where around 2,000 people was evacuated.

An 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Russia’s eastern coast on late Wednesday morning, local time. The quake triggered tsunami waves across the Pacific that hit Russia, Japan, Canada and parts of the US coast.
