Some penguins can grow up to 45 inches tall and weigh up to 100 pounds, so when a group gathers on an iceberg, it’s no surprise that the added weight can cause it to tip.

Hundreds of baby emperor penguins have miraculously survived after a breakaway iceberg as big as the Isle of Wight caused thousands of chicks to be cut off from their mothers.

Iceberg A-23A, the world’s oldest and largest (about the size of Rhode Island), may hit South Georgia Island, home to vulnerable penguins and seabirds.

That's exactly what happened about a week ago, when a 60-mile-long iceberg rammed into it. The two icebergs are now gradually heading counterclockwise around Antarctica, south of Australia.
