Press "Shift-Ctrl-I" to invert your selection. Keeping the foreground and background elements of the image separate ensures that you only blur the background when working with the Blur brush.

In our photo of a statue, the Duo applied the background blur feature on only part of the scene. We’ll have to see if Photos is any better. If nothing else, Background Blur is adjustable.

Photo Sphere offers the ability to capture full, 360 degree immersive snapshots and is an extension of the kind of feature you’ll find from Panorama, but not limited to the horizontal plane.
