God’s way is humble, open, peaceful, loving. God’s way is a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, so powerless that he is dependent on others for warmth and protection. God’s way is Christmas.
As the Baby Jesus was born, it is reported that He was wrapped in “swaddling clothes” and laid in a manger (or feeding trough for the animals).
Swaddling Clothes recently opened in the church building at 316 South Oakwood Ave., Geneseo, and provide, at no cost, items associated with pregnancy and parenthood.
Swaddling infants is an ancient practice; archeologists have found 4,000- to 4,500-year-old statuettes depicting infants in swaddling. It was not only common, it was a symbol of care and affection.
Instead they got “a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes.” God’s son did not come as royalty with gold trappings, his name on coins or buildings.
