With Virat Kohli's decision to not take the DRS on day 2 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh attracting plenty of attention, a section of netizens have called out Shubman Gill for not advising the former captain to opt for the same.

Chennai: Shubman Gill on Saturday went old-school in using his feet to nullify Bangladesh spinners on a pitch that had a hint of variable bounce, and the India batter said it was a part of his meticulous approach to unsettle the visiting tweakers.

Following his century in the first Test against Bangladesh, Shubman Gill recounted a humorous incident with Rishabh Pant during their 167-run partnership. Centuries from Gill and Pant set India up with a massive 515-run target in Chennai.

Speaking at the press conference at the end of the day's play, Gill recalled that during celebrations of their milestones, Pant was trying to touch his bat with Gill's bat, but the right-hander asked Pant to not do so since he was "trying to save the bat" he has been using since the series against England earlier this year.

Having come together as a batting pair for the first time in their careers at the end of Day 2, Gill and Pant – who had led India at Under-19 levels – had the whole of Day Three to assert their spot.
