The government runs an economic scheme for such farmers. In the year 2019, the government started the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana, under which farmers get 6 thousand rupees every year.

So, in the typical Bengal district of Dacca, an area of 2713 square miles, with 4,500,000 population, there is just one District Health Officer, drawing a salary of 300 to 500 rupees a month.

Based strictly on the exchange rate, 1,000 rupees doesn’t amount to much, but in small-town India, it’s evidently a windfall. The newfound money changes Budhi’s life, but not for the better.
