Two children and two adults were killed Wednesday when a fire swept through an apartment complex in a Kansas City, Missouri, suburb in freezing temperatures. The fire was reported around 6 a.m. at the Indy Ridge Apartments in Independence.

The Independence Fire Department confirmed that four people were killed in a large apartment fire Wednesday morning, and two firefighters were injured in the blaze

"It's sad day for the community but we'll pull together," said Independence Fire Chief Mike Hall after a family of four is found dead in the rubble - among them children ages 8 and 3.
