Iowa football’s revamped quarterback room was punctuated by former South Dakota State star Mark Gronowski announcing his commitment to the Hawkeyes on Tuesday. Over the last few months, that position group has undergone serious remodeling.

Iowa football’s quarterback room became a lot more competitive on  Tuesday. South Dakota State quarterback Mark Gronowski will transfer to the Hawkeyes. Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports was first to report the news and Gronowski confirmed via a social media post.

Iowa could use a legit lockdown coverage defender and perhaps help at safety. Iowa has pursued — and missed — on both spots in the transfer portal so far. Iowa’s performance in the secondary against Missouri further reinforced the Hawkeyes' need to bolster that unit.

One of the Iowa Hawkeyes‘ offensive targets is off the board. Iowa was reportedly set to host former Northern Illinois wide receiver Cam Thompson for a visit Jan. 9-10, but that’s off the table following Thompson’s commitment to Mississippi State.
