Louisiana lawmakers have advanced bills to flatten the state's income tax rate and repeal the corporate franchise tax in a special legislative session focused on passing Gov.

Gov. Jeff Landry wants to lower income tax rates, repeal the corporate franchise tax and offset the revenue loss with higher sales taxes.

If approved by the full House and Senate, the plan would eliminate the current tax brackets and move the state closer to eliminating the income tax.
