Badgers coach Greg Gard talked about the how his team handled the foul trouble that hit John Blackwell and John Tonje in the first half Wednesday.

So at 3:57, he picked up an offensive foul, which was his second of the half. That was the last time he saw the court in the first frame. Even worse, Wisconsin sophomore guard John Blackwell (who has averaged 20.3 points per game over the previous seven games) had been sitting with two fouls since 9:06, scoreless.

The 6-foot-4 sophomore went from averaging 8.1 points against the Big Ten last season to ranking sixth in the league with an 19.2 points per game.

University of Wisconsin men’s basketball head coach Greg Gard earned a milestone victory as the Badgers avoided a disastrous second-half collapse to defeat the Ohio State Buckeyes 70-68 on Jan. 14. The Badgers started strong and took a 17-point lead into halftime.

The Greg Gard-led Wisconsin Badgers improved to 15-3 on the season and 5-2 in Big Ten play with a 15-point road win over USC on Saturday. Sophomore guard John Blackwell’s 28-point performance led the victory.

The transfer by way of Colorado State and Missouri kept the energy going all afternoon. Leading Wisconsin with a team-high 27 points, including draining five of his 11 three-point attempts, Tonje again scored in double-figures. He has done so in 18 of 20 games this season for the Badgers.
