Volkswagen AG raised investment plans in Rivian Automotive Inc. by $800 million, signaling its commitment to the US partner even as electric-vehicle demand softens and the incoming Trump administration threatens to curtail supportive policies.

The joint venture targets Rivian’s existing electrical architecture and software technology stack, enabling the launch of Rivian’s R2 model in the first half of 2026, the companies said.

Volkswagen and Rivian have crossed all their T’s and dotted all their I’s in their new $5.8 billion joint venture, which officially kicks off its work on November 13th, the companies announced today.

While automakers such as Tesla and Ford are rethinking their electric vehicle (EV) efforts, scrapping production on an affordable new compact crossover and three–row SUV, respectively, Cadillac continues to push forward with its electrification plans.
