The United States federal budget for fiscal year 2025 runs from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. Under the United States budget process established in 1921, the US government is funded by twelve appropriations bills formed in response to the presidential budget request submitted to Congress in the first few months of the calendar year.

Jan 17, 2025 · In CBO’s projections, the federal budget deficit in fiscal year 2025 is $1.9 trillion. Adjusted to exclude the effects of shifts in the timing of certain payments, the deficit grows to $2.7 trillion by 2035. It amounts to 6.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025 and drops to 5.2 percent by 2027 as revenues increase faster than outlays.

CBO estimates that discretionary funding under the President’s budget in 2025 would be $1.79 trillion, $43 billion less than the amount projected in CBO’s baseline (see Table 3). In 2026 and 2027, appropriations under the President’s budget would decline.
