The same way that European civilizations like the Romans and Greeks were influenced by West Asian civilizations and Egypt, African civilizations like Kush, Carthage and the Ethiopian Kingdoms were influenced by Egypt, the Levant and South Arabia.

Mar 21, 2015 · Around a thousand years earlier, Aksum was a major maritime and economic power on the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. It's rather clear that African civilizations were major players in international trade since the time of Rome if not earlier, we just don't know much about it due to a lack of primary sources.

Dec 5, 2023 · Most people do not know about the diversity of civilizations in Sub-Saharan Africa. The images of Pygmies and Khoisan people overshadow other imaginations about African cultures, which is way unfair. @Sundiata1 knows much more about African history than I do, and I am a delittante in this field as well.

I missed the part where you were using arbitrary criteria to exclude certain North African civilizations, leaving aside the extensive ethnic, cultural and economic connections between those states and West Africa. And the point still stands regardless of whether you want to include North Africa or not.
