ADMIN MOD. (Probably) unpopular opinion: i7 7700k is still good enough in 2023 for 1440p. Discussion. I have come to this conclusion after really thirsting for an upgrade (I have bee eyeing the 13600k). I play some AA/AAA (Cyberpunk 2077, Control) games and stuff like Frostpunk and Civ6, Hoi4 in 1440p but really not so recent ones anymore.

A 3060ti would give you better performance. If you stick to 1080p a 4060ti is fine. Or a rx7700xt they can so times be the same price. 7700k will bottleneck but eh you might as well get an upgrade. Ryzen has been showing higher frames and better frametimes with lower frequencies than their intel counterparts. If you're upgrading from a 6700k to a 7700k its a waste of money, yeah. He isn't, though. 6700k's have been floating for under 280, whereas 7700k's have assumed the old price point-300$.

Oct 25, 2021 · You may find it hard to get reasonably cool overclocks with with the original Thermal Interface Material (TIM). My 7700k went from 4.8 GHz @ 1.35v maxing out at 85c to 5.2 GHz @ 1.385v maxing out at 66c from a delid. Kaby Lake has the highest clock gain/temp drop ratio ive seen on any cpu.

Jun 22, 2023 · I have just done it, i7 7700k, 32 GB ram and rtx 4070. I went from 40 fps low/medium to 60 fps ultra 1440p in starfield. All other game tested are above 55 fps in ultra 1440p (baldur gate 3, cyberpunk, hogward legacy). As my best screen is only 60 fps, I wont change my CPU for now. You will see a MASSIVE improvement in average fps and 1% lows ...

May 2, 2022 · I had a 3060 Ti running with my i7 6700 and the CPU absolutely bottlenecked my Halo infinite performance. Halo is very thread hungry (uses up to 9!) so I would expect less bottleneck with less CPU intensive games. Regardless, try it out and see for yourself. There are only minor bottlenecks not severe ones.
