The current San Francisco 49ers logo features an oval/ellipse, which alludes to the game ball’s shape and the initials “SF” inside it. The “S” is placed on top and interlocks with the “F” below it to form a monogram. The oval, elliptical shape is a bright red, with a thick black outline, followed by an inner gold lining.

The new logo represents the 49ers as a club from San Francisco. It has the shape of an oval ellipse, which is associated with the ball for playing football. Inside the geometric figure is the monogram “SF” – an abbreviation for “San Francisco.” “S” overlaps the “F” in the upper left corner and divides into three parts.

The 49ers’ colors were primarily scarlet and gray until the mid-1960s, at which time they introduced a scarlet and gold shield-shaped design featuring an abstract “49,” interlocking “SF” and contrasting football as their alternate logo. That design was used as the basis for the iconic oval-shaped logo we see today.
